Binswanger's encephalopathy Binswanger's encephalopathy A widespread brain disorder caused by severe arterial disease and high blood pressure so that multiple area of sub-cortical white matter (nerve fibres) are deprived of adequate blood supply and die. The result is a rapidly progressive DEMENTIA associated with acute STROKES. Deterioration is usually rapid. (O.L. Binswanger, 1852–1929, German psychiatrist). |
