Berkov, Pavel Naumovich

 

Born Dec. 2 (14), 18%, in Belgorod-Dnestrovskii; died Aug. 9, 1969, in Leningrad; buried at Komarovo, Leningrad Oblast. Soviet literary critic. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960). Corresponding member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin (1967). Professor at Leningrad University; director of the group for the study of Russian literature of the 18th century at the Institute of Russian Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Pushkin House).

Berkov’s major works were devoted to the study of Russian literature of the 18th through 20th centuries, the literature of the peoples of the USSR, the history of journalism in the 18th century, bibliography, books, and the interrelations between Russian and foreign literatures.
