Metabolites
Metabolites
substances produced in the cells, tissues, and organs of plants and animals during intermediary metabolism and participating in the subsequent processes of assimilation and dissimilation.
In physiology and medicine, metabolites usually include the products of intracellular metabolism subject to final breakdown and removal from the organism. On entering the blood, most metabolites participate in the humoral regulation of functions, exerting specific and nonspecific influences on biochemical and physiological processes.
