Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics

 

an institute founded in 1932 as the Institute of National Economic Accounting and given its present name in 1943.

In 1973 the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics included departments of statistics, economic data processing, and economic cybernetics, along with departments devoted to correspondence courses and to teacher and career education in the area of computer programming. The institute has a graduate studies program, 22 subdepartments, sectorial laboratories, and a research division. The institute also possesses six high-capacity computers, five full sets of punchcard processing equipment, over 300 other calculating machines, and a library of over 300, 000 volumes.

More than 6, 000 students were enrolled in the institute during the 1972–73 academic year; the faculty numbered more than 300, including 26 professors and doctors of sciences and 150 docents and candidates of sciences. The institute has been granted the right to confer doctoral and candidate’s degrees. Since 1948 it has published Uchenye zapiski (Scholarly Notes). Between 1932 and 1972 the institute trained 14, 500 specialists.
