Moscow Turkeys

a breed group of turkeys developed (1946–59) at the Berezki sovkhoz in Moscow Oblast. According to the color of the feathers, the turkeys are classified as Moscow Whites or Moscow Bronzes. Moscow Whites were obtained by crossing domestic turkeys with White Hollands and Beltsville Small Whites; the bronze variety was obtained by crossing domestic turkeys with Broad-breasted Bronzes. The toms weigh 12–13 kg, and the hens 6–7 kg. Moscow turkeys reach sexual maturity early. Moscow Whites lay 100–110 eggs per year, and Moscow Bronzes 90–100. The eggs weigh 85–88 g. The Starinskaia Poultry Farm in Kiev Oblast breeds Moscow turkeys.
