Lingzhi is reported to modulate the immune system through a protein, LZ-8, which is believed to have antitumour, immunomodulatory and immunotherapeutic activity, possibly by inhibiting angiogenesis and cell migration and by driving apoptosis.

Lingzhi has been used for allergies, asthma, insomnia, nervousness, ulcers, tumours, vertigo and to stimulate the circulation and immune system, and may be of use in AIDS and cancer. Some data suggest that it may have antibacterial, antiviral and antihypertensive activity.
