Oesophageal Speech

Spoken language produced by trapping air in the oesophagus and forcing it out again, which has a belching/burping quality to it, which may be used for phonation in laryngectomised patients

(ĕ-sof'ă-jē'ăl spēch) A technique for speaking after total laryngectomy; phonation results from introducing air into the upper esophagus to allow vibration of the pharyngoesophageal (PE) segment.
