nonapproach control tower

nonapproach control tower

A control tower that authorizes aircraft to land and take off at the airport under its control or to transit the airport traffic area. The primary function of a nonapproach control tower is to sequence aircraft in traffic patterns and on the landing area. It also separates aircraft operating under IFR (instrument flight rules) clearance from approach controls and centers. These towers also provide ground control services to aircraft, vehicles, personnel, and equipment on the airport movement areas. The tower, however, does not provide approach control and area control services.
