a genus of plants of the family Caprifoliaceae. They are small evergreen shrubs with slender prostrate stems that have flowering branches. The leaves are opposite, slightly coriaceous, and rounded-ovate. The flowers, which are paired and in cymes, are pale pink or white, drooping, and fragrant. There is one species in the genus (according to other sources, three), growing in coniferous forests, in tundras, and on the upper mountain belt of Eurasia and North America. Twinflower (Linneae borealis) is a common plant of the mossy coniferous forests of Eurasia.
