Moss Convention of 1814

an agreement between Norway and Sweden that ended the Swedish-Norwegian war of 1814 and cleared the way for a union between Sweden and Norway that lasted until 1905. It was concluded in Moss, Norway. According to the Moss Convention, the Danish prince Christian Frederick renounced the Norwegian crown; Norway agreed to the election of the Swedish monarch as king of Norway, that is, to the establishment of actual union; but the Eidsvoll constitution of 1814 was retained in Norway, with certain amendments to reflect the impending union.
