MacArthur, Robert Helmer MacArthur, Robert Helmer(1930–72) ecologist; born in Toronto, Canada. He moved to the U.S.A. at age 17, studied mathematics and zoology, and earned a Ph.D. in the latter field from Yale. From 1965 he was a professor of biology at Princeton. Building on an early interest in birds, he developed influential theories about natural selections in animal populations. |
