Web: www.byways.org/browse/byways/2142/ Description:Byway passes through Oregon's remote and rugged Great BasinCountry, where visitors can explore volcanic remnants like Fort Rock, findfossils at Fossil Lake, see Old Perpetual Geyser, or visit Albert Rim,the largest geological fault in North America, which towers 2,500 feet above the valley floor. The Summer Lake Wildlife Area offers an abundance of lakes, hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and archeological finds.
Legth: 170 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway runs from La Pine south along SR 31 past Silver Lake, Summer Lake and Paisely until route turns into US 395. From there it continues along US 395 until its endpoint just past Lakeview at the Oregon-California border. Time to Allow: 4 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (1998).
