neurosecretory substance neu·ro·se·cre·to·ry sub·stancethe secretion of nerve cell bodies located in the hypothalamus; the substance is transported by way of hypothalamohypophysial tract fibers into the neurohypophysis where the terminals of the nerve fibers contain the secretion.
