Oshki
Oshki
a medieval monastery, one of the cultural centers of the Georgian historical region of Klarjeti (now the Turkish vilayet of Artvin). The large cathedral (958–964), a complex triapsal, domed structure, has triangular niches and two-story chapels. It is embellished with arcatures, carved platbands, frescoes (1036), and relief work. The reliefs depict ktitors, the cathedral’s builder (Girgol Oshkeli), and animals. Northeast of the cathedral are the ruins of a library, seminary, refectory, and outbuildings.
