Orel Agricultural Station

(full name, P. I. Lisitsyn Orel Oblast Experiment Agricultural Station), an agricultural station in Novodereven’kov Raion, Orel Oblast, which was founded in 1896 by P. A. Kostychev as the Shatilov Agricultural Experiment Station. The station, whose name was changed several times, was headed by A. N. Lebediantsev from 1906 to 1927 and by P. I. Lisitsyn from 1927 to 1929.

As of 1973 the station had departments of selection, seed production, land cultivation, vegetables and potatoes, animal husbandry, mechanization, economics, and propaganda. An elite seed-breeding farm is run by the station. Varieties of winter rye (Orel hybrid), buckwheat (Bogatyr’, Shatilov 4, and Shatilov 5), oats (Shatilov), clover (Middle Russian), vetch (White-seeded), and tomato (Shatilov 35) have been developed at the station and have been regionalized (1974). The Orel Agricultural Station has published Trudy (Transactions) since 1906.
