In south-central AK, north of Anchorage. Name Origin: For the Metanuska River, derived from Russian for 'copper river people,' variously spelled Matanooski, Mednofski, Miduuski; and the Susitna River, from Tanaina Indian meaning 'sandy river'; also spelled Sushitna, Sushit, Sutschitna, Sustchino.
