Landon, (Alfred Mossman) Alf

(1887–1987) governor; born in West Middlesex, Pa. (father of Nancy Landon Kassenbaum). Starting A. M. Landon & Company to produce oil in 1912, he had become a millionaire by 1929. As governor of Kansas (Rep., 1933–37), he supported the New Deal, but opposed labor unions. After losing the 1936 presidential election, he returned to his oil firm.
