oesophagoscopy

Direct visual examination of the interior of the OESOPHAGUS usually by means of a flexible, fibreoptic ENDOSCOPE but sometimes using a rigid tube. Oesophagoscopy is an important method of examination in cases of suspected cancer, in narrowing (stricture) and in PHARYNGEAL POUCH.
