mother-baby scope

mother-baby scope

A type of endoscopy that utilizes a miniature or ultra-thin endoscope (the “baby”) contained within a larger endoscope (the “mother”). The larger scope carries the thinner scope to a region of interest. The smaller scope is then guided into a narrow lumen or duct (e.g., the papilla of Vater or the pancreatic duct). Synonym: mother-baby endoscope
