 [met″ah-ram´ĭ-nol] a sympathomimetic agent acting mainly as an α-adrenergic agonist but also stimulating the β1-adrenergic receptors of the heart and having potent vasopressor activity; administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously as the bitartrate salt for prevention and treatment of acute hypotensive states.
