[′lik·wəd ′ā ′wən] (cryogenics) A phase of liquid helium-3 intermediate between liquid A and liquid B that appears only in the presence of a magnetic field and then only in a narrow portion of the pressure-temperature diagram, and in which only pairs of one of the three possible nuclear spin states are superfluid. Also known as A1 phase.
