Macintosh clone

Macintosh clone

A Power Macintosh from a company other than Apple. In late 1994, Apple began to license its operating system and hardware technologies to third parties. The first models appeared in the spring of 1995 from Radius, Power Computing and DayStar Digital. In late 1996, Apple halted its licensing, and the clone business was discontinued. Apple paid Power Computing to acquire some of its personnel and end its agreements. In 2008, Psystar introduced a non-Apple computer with the Apple operating system (see OSx86). See CHRP.
