Langjökull
Langjökull
a mountain massif in the western part of Iceland. Elevation, up to 1,410 m. It is composed of volcanogenic rocks (tuff-breccia and young lavas) and is covered almost entirely by a large glacier of the same name (with an area of 1,020 sq km). There are also several other glaciers, including Touris-jökull (33 sq km) and Eirìksjökull (23 sq km). There are many dammed glacial lakes at the base of Lanjökull, the largest being Hvítárvatn. The areas not covered by ice are mountain tundra or are covered by scattered stones.
