Special Features:Site commemorates Florida's largest Civil War battle, in which morethan 10,000 soldiers fought for five hours on February 20, 1864.Three US Colored Troops, including the now-famous 54th Massachusetts,participated in the battle, which ended with the retreat of the Unionsoldiers to Jacksonville for the remainder of the war. Casualties thatday totaled more than 2,800. The battle is reenacted each year, andscenes for Civil War movies (including Glory) havebeen filmed during the reenactments.
