Musical Clowning

a genre in the circus or on the variety stage. This type of clowning consists of musical performances involving trick-playing techniques on ordinary instruments or on such special clown instruments as saws, bottles, handbells, frying pans, or logs. It requires great skill to use such objects in unconventional ways and to produce sounds from out-of-the-ordinary instruments.
