Lisitsyn, Aleksandr Petrovich
Born July 3, 1923, at the Shatilov Selection Station, Novodereven’kovskii Raion, Orel Oblast. Soviet geologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1974).
After graduating from the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute in 1950, Lisitsyn joined the Institute of Oceanography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His achievements include the establishment of general patterns for the distribution and transport of suspended sedimentary material and the calculation of absolute weights of suspended material in the oceans. He substantiated the existence of three global regions of maximum terrigenous and biogenic sedimentation rates in the pelagic sections of oceans. In addition to identifying global zones of sedi-mentogenesis, Lisitsyn has published charts of the sedimentation rates and the absolute weights of sedimentary material in the world ocean.
Lisitsyn received the State Prize of the USSR in 1971 and 1977 and has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
