Aniva
(until 1946, Rudaka), a city, the administrative center of Aniva Raion in southern Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated on the Liutoga River, near its mouth at Lososi Bay, also known as Aniva Bay. Population in 1968, 4,700. Aniva has a railroad station and food industry enterprises.
Aniva
a gulf of the Sea of Okhotsk off the southern coast of the island of Sakhalin, between the Kril’on and Tonino-Aniva peninsulas. It opens wide on the south into the La Pérouse Strait. It is 104 km wide and 90 km long, and its greatest depth is 93 m. The northern, narrower part is called the Bay of Lososei. The gulf is rich in fish—salmon, herring, cod, and flounder—and crabs are abundant. The towns of Aniva and Korsakov are situated on the shores of the gulf.
