[′meth·əd əv ′bī‚sek·tərz] (navigation) As applied to celestial lines of position, the movement of each of three or four intersecting lines of position in equal amounts, in the same direction, toward or away from the celestial bodies, so as to bring them as nearly as possible to a common intersection; when there are more than four lines of position, the lines of position in the same general direction are combined to reduce the data to not more than four lines of position.
