Nikolai Abelman

Abel’man, Nikolai Samuilovich

 

Born Feb. 7 (19), 1887; died July 7, 1918. Participant in the Great October Socialist Revolution; engineer. Member of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) as of March 1917.

In May 1917, Abel’man became chairman of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) committee in Kovrov. After the October Revolution he became chairman of the Military Revolutionary Committee, and in January 1918 he became chairman of the Kovrov soviet. A delegate to the Fifth All-Russian Congress of Soviets, held in July 1918, he participated in the liquidation of the left Socialist Revolutionaries’ revolt in Moscow. Abel’man was killed near the Pokrovskaia Gates, which were later renamed after him.
