Lapin, Petr Ivanovich

 

Born Jan. 16 (29), 1909, in Penza. Soviet dendrologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

Lapin graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Timber Technology in 1931. He worked at the Nikita Botanical Garden from 1933 to 1936 and at the Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1939 to 1941. In 1945 he began working at the Main Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where he served as head of the division of dendrology and in 1952 became deputy director. Lapin’s work has mainly dealt with the introduction of woody plants and with horticulture.

Lapin has received three orders and several medals.
