Litani
(also Nahr al-Litani; in antiquity, Leontes), the largest river in Lebanon. The Litani measures 170 km in length and drains an area of more than 2,000 sq km. It rises in and flows mainly through the Bekaa Valley. In the lower course it dissects the southern spurs of the Lebanon Mountains and empties into the Mediterranean Sea. The water level is high in winter. The mean flow rate is 25 cu m per sec. The river is used for irrigation.
