Madagascar Basin

a basin of the Indian Ocean, situated southeast of the island of Madagascar. In the north, east, and south it is surrounded by the Mascarene, Mid-Indian, and West Indian ridges, respectively. Length, about 1,800 km; greatest width, approximately 900 km; maximum depth, 5,815 m. Bottom sediments consist of sandy silt.
