methylmorphine

co·deine

Used as an analgesic and antitussive; drug dependence (physical and psychic) may develop, but codeine is less liable to produce addiction than morphine; codeine is biotransformed to morphine, which accounts for most of codeine's effects. Synonym(s): methylmorphine [G. kōdeia, head, poppy head]
