amoebic abscess

Local destruction and liquefaction of tissue, usually in the liver, as a result of the toxic action of the amoeba, Entamoeba histolytica . The affected area becomes walled off by fibrous tissue and the contents are said to resemble anchovy sauce. Amoebic liver abscesses sometimes break though the DIAPHRAGM into the lung and the contents may be coughed up.
