Abbot, Charles
Born May 31, 1872. American astronomer; a specialist in solar physics and the study and application of solar energy. Member of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington.
Abbot investigated the infrared solar spectrum. He determined the solar constant and researched the distribution of energy of the sun and other stars, using a spectrobolometer and radiometer of his own invention. His book The Sun was translated into Russian in 1936.
