Oniashvili, Otar Davidovich
Born May 14 (27), 1914, in Tbilisi; died there Aug. 14, 1968. Soviet scientist in structural mechanics; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR (1960); Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the Georgian SSR (1964).
Oniashvili graduated from the Georgian Polytechnic Institute in 1935. In 1947 he was put in charge of the department of spatial structures of the Institute of Structural Mechanics and Earthquake-proofing of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR. His main works dealt with the dynamics and stability of shells and with the study of earthquake resistance in buildings and in other structures. Oniashvili was a deputy to the sixth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals.
