Larionov, Andrei Nikolaevich

 

Born July 4 (16), 1889, in Moscow; died there Feb. 7, 1963. Soviet scientist in electrical engineering; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953). He graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1919 and taughtthere; in 1930 he began teaching at the Moscow Institute of Power Engineering (he became a professor in 1933). From 1921 to1941 he also worked at the All-Union Electrotechnical Institute and, beginning in 1953, at the Institute of Automation and Telemechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Larionov’s main works dealt with the theory, design, and construction of special electric machines and drives. A number of small electric machines were developed under his supervision or with his collaboration. In 1924 he proposed a three-phase bridge circuit for rectification of current. Larionov helped solve technical problems associated with the start-upof turbogenerators and hydrogenerators at power plants and with the electrification of oil fields. He was awarded the Orderof Lenin, as well as medals.
