Larkana
(lärkä`nə), city (1998 pop. 270,366), S central Pakistan, on the Ghar canal. Famous for the quality of its rice, it is an important grain market and a trading center for silk and cotton goods. Brass and other metalware are manufactured. The city has two colleges affiliated with the Univ. of Sind. Larkana, named for the Larak tribe that inhabited the neighboring area, is the birthplace of former Pakistani prime minister Zulfikar Ali BhuttoBhutto, Zulfikar Ali, 1928–79, Pakistani political leader. Member of a wealthy landowning family, he entered politics as the protégé of General Ayub Khan. Bhutto joined the cabinet in 1958, becoming foreign minister in 1963.

Larkana
a city in Pakistan, Sind Province, on the southern bank of the Ghar Canal in the Indus Valley. Population, 48,000 (1961). A railroad station, Larkana is a trade-handicraft center in the important agricultural region, irrigated by the Sukkur system.
