Nikolai Eliseev

Eliseev, Nikolai Aleksandrovich

 

Born Dec. 7 (19), 1897, in Samara (now Kuibyshev); died Jun. 24, 1966, in Leningrad. Soviet geologist and petrographer; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953).

Eliseev graduated from Leningrad University in 1924. Between 1938 and 1947 he was a professor at the Leningrad Institute of Mines. In 1947 he became a professor at Leningrad University and in 1949 an associate of the Laboratory of Precambrian Geology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His principal works concerned the geology of the Rudnyi Altai and Kola Peninsula, the methodology of petrographic research, and questions of metamorphism. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
