It is a major artery of NW Bolivia, but frequent rapids make its lower course only partly navigable. It drains a rubber-producing region.Madre de Diosa river in South America, a left tributary of the Beni (Amazon system). Length, approximately 1,450 km; basin area, approximately 110,000 sq km. The river rises in the Andes (Cordillera de Carabaya), in southeastern Peru. For most of its course the Madre de Dios flows through northern Bolivia. At the mouth the width is up to 1,400 m. High water is from December through May. The river is navigable by small craft for a distance of 1,000 km from the mouth. Madre de Dios |
