Bel’chikov, Nikolai Fedorovich

 

Born Nov. 4 (16), 1890, in Mstera, Vladimir Province. Soviet literary scholar, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953), and Honored Scholar of the RSFSR (1947). Member of the CPSU since 1948.

Bel’chikov began to publish in 1910. His major works are devoted to the study of Russian literature and social thought of the 19th century (F. M. Dostoevsky, Narodnichestvo [Populism], the revolutionary democrats, G. V. Plekhanov, and others) and to the problems of literary scholarship. He participated in the editorial preparation of the academic editions of the works of M. Iu. Lermontov, V. G. Belinskii, N. V. Gogol, A. I. Polezhaev, G. I. Uspenskii, G. V. Plekhanov, A. V. Lunacharskii, and others. He received the Belinskii Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1951 and has been awarded the Order of Lenin and medals.
