Suvorov, Nikolai Georgievich

Born Nov. 25 (Dec. 7), 1889, in Saratov; died July 21, 1972, in Leningrad. Soviet artist. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1969). Member of the CPSU from 1945.

Suvorov studied at the Bogoliubov Art School in Saratov. He worked at the Saratov Theater (1920–21) and at Lenfil’m (from 1927). He was best known for his work in motion pictures. His film credits include Golden Mountains (1931), Thunderstorm (1934), Baltic Deputy (1937), Peter I (parts 1–2, 1937 and 1939), The Great Turning Point (1945), Mussorgsky (1950, jointly with A. P. Veksler), The Alien Kin (1956), The Soldiers (1957), and Virgin Soil Upturned (parts 1–2, 1960; part 3, 1961, jointly with Veksler). A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR in 1946 and 1951, Suvorov was also awarded two orders and various medals.
