Nikolai Iakovlevich Zarudnyi

Zarudnyi, Nikolai Iakovlevich

 

Born Aug. 20, 1921, in the village of Orekhovets, Skvira Raion, Kiev Oblast. Soviet Ukrainian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1948.

Zarudnyi graduated from the journalism department of Kazakh University in 1942. He served in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45. During 1961-63 he was the chief editor at the A. P. Dovzhenko Film Studio. Zarudnyi is the author of the novella My Fellow Countrymen (1950), the collection of short stories Light (1961), and the novels In the Wide World (1967) and Uranium (1970). Most of his plays deal with the present—for example, On the Steep Banks (1955), Night and Flame (1958), If You Love (\\959), Dead God (I960), Island of Your Dream (staged, 1962; published, 1963), Fortune (staged and published, 1964), Blue Dew (staged and published, 1966), and Loyalty (staged and published, 1970). Zarudnyi has been awarded two orders and several medals.
