Nikolai Ilich Trushkov

Trushkov, Nikolai Il’ich

Born Apr. 28 (May 10), 1876, in Viatka; died May 26,1947, in Leningrad. Soviet mining scientist. Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1945).

After graduating from the St. Petersburg Institute of Mines in 1900, Trushkov worked at mines in the Donets Coal Basin, the Urals, and Kazakhstan. He was a professor at the Petrograd Institute of Mines from 1918 to 1920, at the Tomsk Technological Institute from 1921 to 1925, and at the Leningrad Institute of Mines from 1925 to 1947. He was the first to organize a training program for mining engineers at the Leningrad Institute of Mines and was the founder of the scientific school for the working of ore deposits; he proposed a system for mining ore with shrinkage stoping.

Trushkov was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
