Manfaluti, Mustafa Lutfi Al-

 

Born 1876, in Manfalut, Upper Egypt; died 1924 in Cairo. Egyptian writer.

Al-Manfaluti studied at the Muslim Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He was a student of Sheikh Muhammad Abdo, head of the Muslim reformation. In 1908, Manfaluti began to appear in print. He wrote short stories, sketches, essays, and adaptations of French literary works. In his sentimental novellas and short stories, Manfaluti preached the “duty of charity” toward all the weak and defenseless and criticized social injustice.
