Korguev, Matvei Mikhailovich

 

Born 1883 in Keret’, now in Loukhskii Raion, Karelian ASSR; died 1943. Russian storyteller.

Korguev was a fisherman. More than 100 of his stories were recorded in the 1930’s. At the core of his repertoire were fairy tales, characterized by a consistent epic style and abundance of realistic details. Korguev was a member of the Writers Union of the USSR and was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
