Maurandya

a genus of plants of the family Scrophulariaceae. They are perennial herbaceous lianas that are attached to their supports by coiling petioles and pedicels (except for Maurandya purpusii, which has creeping shoots and tuberous rhizomes). The flowers, which are large and funnelform, are white, pink, purple, or violet. There are up to ten species, distributed from the southwestern United States to tropical Mexico. Some are annual ornamentals (M. scandens, M. lophospermum, M. erubescent) and are used to decorate walls, grilles, and balconies. At times, some species of Maurandya are attributed to the genus Asarina.
