Lashio (lăsh`yō, ləshyō`), town, Shan state, E central Myanmar. It is a trade center and the terminus of the railroad line from Mandalay. Lashio was famous in World War II as the starting point of the Burma Road.Lashio a city in the Union of Burma, Shan National State. Population, approximately 20,000. It is an important transport center on the Chinese-Burmese highway and the Mandalay-Boduin railroad. There are large deposits of polymetallic ores (mined and processed by the Boduin-Namtu Combine) and of coal. Lashio also has sawmills.
