Nikolai Kormashov

Kormashov, Nikolai Ivanovich

 

Born Aug. 28, 1929, in the village of Turgenevo, Melenki Raion, Vladimir Oblast. Soviet painter.

Kormashov, who studied in Tallinn at the Art Institute of the Estonian SSR from 1951 to 1957, works in Estonia. He paints thematic compositions and industrial landscapes, represented by Salt of the Earth (1965, Art Museum of the Estonian SSR, Tallinn), Reinforced Concrete (1965, Art Museum of the Estonian SSR) and The Dinner Table (1968, Art Museum of the Estonian SSR), the triptych The Young Builders (1967, in the All-Union Production Art Combine of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, Moscow), and the triptych To the Victims of War (1969, Tartu Art Museum). Kormashov also paints portraits (G. Reindorff, 1965, Art Museum of the Estonian SSR). His works are distinguished by broad generalization, intense emotional feeling, and concise expressive devices.
