Mutsu

a bay in the central part of the Tsugaru Strait, Japan, that cuts across the northern end of the island of Honshu. Its deepest point is 58 m. Surface water temperature may reach 20°-22°C; in February, it falls to 2°-3°C. Salinity is 32.5 parts per thousand. Tides in the bay are irregularly semidiurnal and reach 0.4 m at their greatest height. Ports are Ominato and Aomori.
